leitmotifs:
a leitmotif is recurring melody, phrase, rhythm, chord etc which plays within a music score, it could be a representation of a period in time, character, emotion, or certain scene within the piece of media.
in my score I added a melodic leitmotif which represented the sadness and emotions of the people within the clip, firstly the motif was just a singular piano, which was at the beginning of the clip where there was less ‘tension’ within the scene, then as the tension and emotions raised the motif was raised with the addition of strings also playing the motif.
the motif wasn’t synced to any points within the clip, as it played through out different parts, this was to let the motif play under the radar as to not bring any attention to a specific part as the whole clip is important.
the clip has a very blue tone to it, both in the emotion and physical colour of the clip, this is reflected int he motif which is the 4 notes
F♯,C♯,A,D
the first 3 notes which create the chord f♯min, which creates the ‘sadness’ and the D adds some light into the motif which I think fits the tone of the clip and creates a bittersweetness, as they except their fate.
reflecting on my work, I would say that the motif gave representation to the emotions while not Mickey mousing the clip as it stayed put in the background.
